Cllr Martin Wrigley, MP, lends his support to SEND Education
Councillor Martin Wrigley, MP for Newton Abbot and member of the Liberal Democrats party, visited our school this morning to meet Nicola Jones (Headteacher), Samantha Hill (Assistant Headteacher) and Josie Parkin (Speech and Language Therapist).
Councillor Wrigley came to find out how we support pre-verbal children within the curriculum and how we are campaigning for the phonics screening, and the KS1/2 curriculum, to be adapted to meet the communication needs of non-verbal children.
After the meeting, Councillor Wrigley was taken on a tour of our Lower Campus where some of the learning aids used to encourage our non-verbal children to communicate were pointed out. They continued to discuss the challenges and opportunities that teaching children with SEND brings as they completed their tour.
Samantha Hill said afterwards "I am grateful to Councillor Wrigley for accepting our invitation, for showing support for our cause, and for committing to continue advocating for SEND education within the government."
